A GOLF LOCATED ON A ROYAL ESTATE

The Royal Golf Club du Château d’Ardenne is located at Houyet, near Namur in Belgium.

This magnificent golf course has a long history. It was located on the Royal Estate, which became the Donation Royale after King Leopold II transferred it to the Belgian state. King Leopold II was the originator of the golf course: he had a castle built in the 1870s as a large luxury hotel, which has now disappeared due to a fire, and in 1895 he created a golf course next to it. When the hotel was closed in 1950, the ASBL of Golf du Château Royal d’Ardenne took over the land and the facilities and turned it into a 12-hole golf course. At that time, the club was attended by members of the royal family and three Belgian kings were champions of the club. In the 1990s, six more holes were built to make the 18-hole course we know today. The environment of the golf course has been perfectly preserved due to its isolation in the middle of the countryside and forest.
